Think about the well-being offering introduced in Leviticus 3 and more detail given in Lev 7. The offerer brings the animal, presents it, sacrifices it. Then the priest would carry out their part.
The animal was sacrificed, some parts were burnt and would rise up to God. A portion is given to the priest. The offerer gets a portion. All must consume it in 2 days.

They materially benefit from the sacrifice, they share it with God and the priest.
What would they have thought about while eating the meal?
